Transcending Gondolas into Architecture | Venice, Italy | Unit 21 | 2020

My year’s work has been sited in Venice Italy where I have analysed the traditional Venetian gondola, looking at its specific geometries, traditional and cultural importance to the city. The project harnesses the traditional craftsmanship of the few remaining gondola workshops and combined with computation processes develops a new event space in the NE canals of Venice. This was done by using a parametric production pipeline (Grasshopper along with GH Python and the Rhinoceros API and UE4). This approach allowed me to deconstruct the meaning behind the traditional Venetian gondolas and recreate it in the form of a functional architectural concept.
