About
Unit 21 is a Post Graduate (MArch) Design Unit at the Bartlett School of Architecture. It is taught by Abigail Ashton, Andrew Porter and Tom Holberton.
Abigail and Andrew have been teaching at the Bartlett since 1996 and have taught Unit 21 since 2009. Tom Holberton has taught Unit 21 since 2015.
Their students have won a number of awards including, in recent years, the following:
The Donaldson Medal
Fitzroy Robinson Prize for Best Drawing of the year (3rd Year Prize)
Fitzroy Robinson Prize for Best Drawing of the year (5th Year Prize)
Kohn Petersohn Fox Bursury for Highest Achievement in the Year
Ambrose Poynter Prize for Distinguished Work in Diploma Thesis
RIBA Bronze and Silver Medal Nominees
The unit places particular emphasis on students developing their own identity and agenda as architects. We strongly believe that advanced post graduate study should be focussed on how students develop ideas and tactics for speculative architectural thinking and methods of representation that are particular to the idiosyncrasies of their ideas and projects.
This website is a catalogue representing a small proportion of this output.
It is also a teaching resource for links to research and information on art, architecture, design and culture etc.
