Extending Territory<\/b><\/p>\n

The\u00a0building houses Scene and Heard, a theater and charity that take\u00a0underprivileged children from the local area of Somers town and teach them to\u00a0write plays. These plays are then performed to by professional actors to\u00a0a public audience.\u00a0This\u00a0project explores how the territory of Scene and Heard’s work expands into the\u00a0homes of the children and how over the years this territory has grown. This is\u00a0done by mapping where the children live in relation to the site and then\u00a0transposing this map onto the facade \u00a0and geometry of the building.\u00a0The\u00a0project also aims to create a wonderland full of exciting shapes and play\u00a0spaces, such as the theatre pod and tree house play spaces held up by chemically\u00a0reinforced structural glass “light trees”, which create a friendly\u00a0and playful environment where the children can escape the difficulties of their\u00a0everyday lives and be themselves.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0“light trees” and the perforated brass facade work together with the\u00a0pods to create a variety of different lighting conditions in the building that\u00a0vary throughout the day.<\/p>\n
