When tracing the origin of Heroin\u00a0you will almost inevitably find that Afghanistan\u00a0is the source. Afghanistan\u2019s economy is highly\u00a0dependent on opium farming, which has funded\u00a0the insurgents fighting NATO forces and corrupted\u00a0the government. Foreign countries like the U.S. and\u00a0UK have promoted pomegranate farming to replace\u00a0the opium fields. However, a pomegranate factory\u00a0in Afghanistan could not sustain itself due to the\u00a0instability of political issues and lack of government\u00a0infrastructure. Therefore, the project seeks to\u00a0utilise Marseille\u2019s port city location and assist the\u00a0pomegranate trade the same way it did the opium\u00a0trade in the French Connection. It is seen as an\u00a0opportunity to change the image of Marseille as a\u00a0drug city.<\/h6>\n

In the design project, the nature\u00a0of different boundaries is explored, which are\u00a0associated with different elements of the urban\u00a0park. The \u2018boundaries\u2019 act as an architectural\u00a0element in different parts of the park such that not\u00a0only is the border a mark to a park region but also\u00a0aims to respond spatially and calibrate the value of\u00a0the pomegranate products and farming situation in\u00a0Afghanistan. The scheme also rethinks the ways of\u00a0access, separation and experience that each could\u00a0provide in order to draw awareness to the political\u00a0issues.<\/h6>\n

 <\/p>\n

The proposal aims to act as a calibrator\u00a0where the \u2018boundaries\u2019 mediate between park\u00a0facilities and pomegranate production lines. These\u00a0three elements merge to form the architecture. The\u00a0idea is to reveal the political issues in Afghanistan\u00a0and address a moralistic statement to the public\u2014that is, the privilege of enjoying the public facilities\u00a0is exchanged for the constant fight of replacing\u00a0opium farming.\u00a0The overall scheme is explored\u00a0as a system with a series of boundaries. The\u00a0superimposition of the architectural interventions\u00a0of boundaries and urban park facilities of the\u00a0proposals is dictated by the implied market value\u00a0of pomegranate. The operation of the artificial\u00a0boundary is closely linked to the pomegranate\u00a0supply and production. The idea of placing\u00a0pomegranate production lines as boundaries\u00a0between park facilities reflects the quantitative data\u00a0of supply and production. It defines the enclosure\u00a0and distinction as a traditional architectural form to\u00a0secure and defend.<\/h6>\n

It is intentionally positioned in a way\u00a0that the market value of pomegranate products is\u00a0registered by the visitors while crossing. Here, an\u00a0inevitable hierarchy in the park facilities determines\u00a0the value of pomegranate products, which is\u00a0reflected in the compositional order, ingress route\u00a0and amount of boundaries visitors have to cross.<\/h6>\n
