\u201cSLOW DOESN\u2019T MEAN DOING EVERYTHING AT A SNAIL\u2019S PACE, IT MEANS DOING EVERYTHING AT THE RIGHT SPEED. THAT IMPLIES QUALITY OVER QUANTITY; REAL AND MEANINGFUL HUMAN CONNECTIONS; BEING PRESENT AND IN THE MOMENT.\u201d<\/em><\/h6>\n
Turin is known as the foundation of slow food movement, a movement founded by Carlo Petrini in Italy, 1986, strived to prevent the disappearance of local food cultures and traditions, and to counteract the rise of fast life.<\/h6>\n
Located in central Turin, with the aim of defining the term \u2018Slowness\u2019, the \u2018Slow Movement\u2019 Institution encourages people to do everything at the right speed, to slow down, contemplate, examine the quality change in each space, enjoy things they encounter in their life, and treasure the time passing by.<\/h6>\n
Mainly dominated by the choreography of light, the interior of the building will capture different types of spatial quality depending on the source of light and the overall surroundings, some with subtle change, some with strong contrast similar to the futurist impression, and some with colour change according to the colour of sky and artificial light.<\/h6>\n
Apart from using light to slow people down, the institution also provides people with great opportunities to get educated about the slow movement through different events in each space. (e.g. Exhibitions, Forums, Chef\u2019s alliance kitchen etc.)<\/h6>\n
Overall, the institution will offer people a sanctuary to relax, slow down their pace of life mentally and physically, to rethink about the use of time, and to enjoy every moment in their life.<\/h6>\n

Through researching into the recipes in the Futurist Cookbook and techniques in Gastrophysics, the change in form of food and different hand movements turned out to be the most inspiring elements.<\/h6>\n
Using the concept from futurist paintings, the \u2018Futurist\u2019 Experience Centre enables the public to engage with these mechanical devices derived from the process of cooking and eating, to provide them with the experience full of smells, layers, colour change and choreographic movements overtime.<\/h6>\n

Futurism<\/strong><\/h6>\n
Influenced by the researching project at the beginning, one of the important design ideas is to capture the painting concept from \u2018Futurism\u2019, which was an Italian art movement of the early twentieth century that aimed to capture in art the dynamism, energy and movement of the modern world into the design of my building project.<\/h6>\n

Light Study<\/strong><\/h6>\n
The idea of \u2018slowness\u2019 will be achieved through light change over time, different-sized apertures on the exterior facade are designed to dominate the angle of sunlight coming in, mechanical panels on both interior and exterior are introduced to regulate the amount of light, and artificial light are lighten up at a certain point to enhance the interior and exterior walking experience.<\/h6>\n

Physical model is being used as an extra tool to determine the luminosity of each space and to simulate the artificial light at night.<\/h6>\n
