Historically\nthe village started out as a small settlement of skilled workers from the\nisland of Anafi, who came to Athens in the 1800s to help construct king Otto\u2019s\npalace. <\/h6>\n\n\n\n<h6>In\nresearching into this strange village, reminiscent of the traditional Greek\nisland architecture, I found out that there were three fascinating rulings that\nwere in place in the 1800s, which allowed the Anafi workers to settle in such a\ndisputed area of land:<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<h6>1)\nIf a structure is built between sunset and sunrise, (i.e. overnight) it cannot\nbe demolished.<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<h6>2) Any\nstructure with a roof over the top of it cannot be demolished by the\ngovernment.<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<h6>3)\nAs long as the structure is built before surise and has a roof over it, the\nland the structure is built on also then rightfully belongs to the person who\nbuilt it. <\/h6>\n\n\n\n<h5> Click image to zoom\u2013&gt; <\/h5>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/unit-21.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Kelly-Portfolio-4.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"667\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/unit-21.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Kelly-Portfolio-4-667x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8702\" srcset=\"https:\/\/unit-21.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Kelly-Portfolio-4-667x1024.png 667w, https:\/\/unit-21.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Kelly-Portfolio-4-163x250.png 163w, https:\/\/unit-21.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Kelly-Portfolio-4-768x1179.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 667px) 100vw, 667px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h6><strong>THE PRE-FABRICATED HOUSE<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<h6>Modular buildings and modular homes generally consist of universal parts (or modules) that are manufactured in a factory and then shipped to a build site where they are assembled into a variety of arrangements. Modular homes can often be added or reduced in size by adding or subtracting certain components or modules. The idea behind modular houses is to increase its flexibility, versatility and functionality of spaces.<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<h6>The 24 hour\nhouse is an exploration into modular systems with special regards to the\nWikihouse system, the key design concept of the 24 hour house is that the idea\nof time resonates through every aspect of the project. The building becomes a\nclock, where the instructions are embedded into each piece of the building.<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<h6>Each piece,\neach frame and each joint is questioned and designed in order to adapt and\nrespond to the environment as well as the sun. The concept of\n\u201ctime\u201d plays a crucial role in this project. The building becomes a live\nstrructure and constructing it becomes a struggle againt time. From the moment\nthe truck arrives with the CNC materials to the moment the last screw is put\ninto place, every detail is questioned. Each hour is carefully designed and\nquestioned, in order to enhance both the architecture and the efficiency of the\nbuilding.<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<h6>Shadow and\nlight is imperative in the design and construction process, which makes each\ndesign a very particular building, adapted to existing site and environmental\nconditions. The building becomes a sort of sundial, where the shadows or light\ncast during the day, will tell the users where to place the next panel or the\nnext joint. Hence the house becomes a sort of feedback mechanism, a live\nstructure that leads the users. However, one began\nto speculate how the building could be constructed on other days as well, such\nas during winter solstice or even spring or autumn. Using the same set of\nmaterials and principle of the system, the building would look completely\ndifferent as the angle of the sun differs between summer and winter. Hence the\nshadows cast on the ground will also be different. As there will be less daylight,\nthere will be more reliance on the artificial lighting.
