Swimming Landscape Formation | Barcelona, Spain | Unit 21 | 2024
kullaphat.ngamprasertpong.20@ucl.ac.uk
The project is a swimming landscape sitting on a hill site overlooking the city center. It is a formation of water landscape following a specific topography. From building scale to human scale, the building is designed following two principles: “viewing angles” and “light reflection”. All elements are designed to be part of the landscape, with water flowing naturally from the upper to the lower levels. The aim is to create a changeable architecture that offers a special experience through the perspectives of users. To achieve a light reflection effect, a well-known Spanish material, ceramic, is selected. By using the colour of the Barcelona Sea at a point aligned to the site, the pattern and colour palette of ceramic tiles are designed and placed on the ceiling of the main pool. Tiles with varying colour and levels of glossiness were tested physically and digitally before finalising the outcome. This approach not only creates special moments for swimmers but also helps them identify their location while swimming. This colour pattern is applied to the whole building, enhancing the light reflection effect, while the rest of the building is all white.
