| Augmented Grounds reimagines Berlin’s Mauerpark as a doped landscape, one that performs year-round through environmental enhancement. Designed through a feedback loop with a responsive drawing machine, the project evolves seasonally, where terrain becomes infrastructure and climate becomes a tool for performance. It houses both a civic park and the new National Anti Doping Agency of Germany (NADA) Centre for Clean Sport, staging a tension between bodily performance and environmental manipulation. Roof becomes hill; ceiling becomes a porous, operable surface that adapts to sun, wind, and air across the year. Instead of relying on automation, the building proposes participatory climate systems: rotating stall shelves, rim-triggered ventilation, and a modular climbing wall that opens and tilts with the seasons. These elements make environmental regulation both visible and shared, inviting users to become active participants in shaping the climate of their space. This is not a passive landscape, but a doped one: architecturally enhanced to sustain play and negotiation year-round. Mauerpark becomes a park in permanent performance: an augmented ground for public life and clean sport. |
Design Methodology A live feedback design method where a computer vision machine reads a proposed physical model in real time, drawing what it sees and guiding design through red-blue performance ratios and seasonal climate response. |
Plans A new hill merges with Mauerpark. Seasonal park spaces sit west and high, while NADA’s clean sport facilities are embedded at the rear, within this climate-responsive terrain. |
Sections The sections reveal how the building’s language mirrors the modulated roofscape and terrain. It is shaped by seasonal adaptation and the logic of a live feedback design process rooted in performance and responsive systems. |
Internal and External Renders A doped landscape emerges from Mauerpark: a new hill where seasonally adaptive public spaces unfold beneath a modulated roof. Architecture becomes a tool for performance enhancement, merging climate and ethics into a continuous public field. |
Final Film A doped terrain in constant performance that breathes with the seasons, shaped by feedback, climate, and collective use. Landscape and structure merge to enhance public life, where play, ethics, and adaptation coexist in a continuous act. |
