| Sited over the historic Reno Canal in the old town of Bologna , the project proposes a centre for balsamic vinegar designed through a process undertaken between physical making and digital feedback and draws on the agentic behaviour of the buildings own materiality to form an architecture. The design process begins with a carving of the site, using a conversation between physical gestures and digital signals to a series of devices formed prior to this project. The new landscape is then cut at different heights and used as moulds to provoke chance reactions from metal surfaces and create unforeseen impressions of the landscape. These impressions become the layers of the building in which a stone structure is generated between, tracing how points in the metal react and move during the pressing, forming an architecture which builds up a landscape that is informed by and responds to the behaviours of its own materiality. |
