WAVE FIELD proposes a new extension to the Laban Theatre in Deptford, London, using EEG data as a form of design agency to generate a more open, dynamic and responsive environment for performance and rehearsal. The existing theatre has a strong architectural rhythm: its reflective facade and curved form absorb the surrounding context, while its interior provides enclosed rehearsal spaces. This project extends that rhythm outward, introducing a series of open stages, intimate performance spaces, planted areas and water elements that create a more varied spatial experience.

Wave Field form catalogue The full set of EEG-generated massing studies forms a catalogue of spatial possibilities. Rather than being treated as final forms, these studies become a vocabulary for developing the extension.

Wave Field  WAVE FIELD uses EEG to transform neurological responses into architectural space, creating choreographed encounters between dancers, visitors, architecture and Deptford Creek through stages, seating, ramps, water and planting.

Plans and section  The site plan, floor plans and section explain how the extension is organised: mirroring Laban’s geometry, carrying its internal ramp outward, and arranging performance, rehearsal and viewing spaces across connected horizontal and vertical routes.

Viewpoints of the Extension  These views focus on how the proposal is experienced from different positions: approaching from outside, looking from Laban, sitting above the stages, entering sunken spaces, and encountering tilted ground.
